The philosophy of the Ingenuity Project is to nurture, develop and encourage the Ingenuity student. In keeping with this philosophy, a student who continues to meet the standards of the program is accepted for all three middle school years. Students who wish to continue with Ingenuity may apply for the high school Ingenuity Project at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
Ingenuity students are expected to have excellent attendance with no unexcused absences. This includes summer programs for Ingenuity. They are expected to maintain a demeanor that is respectful of fellow Ingenuity students and teachers which honors the importance of the work. Students who do not meet attendance and behavior standards may be dismissed from the program at any time.
Ingenuity students are expected to attain an 80 average or above in the science and mathematics course work by accomplishing the following:
1. Consistent effort to do all homework. Must hand in at least 90% of homework on time. Allowance is made for the occasional time when an assignment is late due to extenuating circumstances.
2. Corrections done promptly on all homework, quizzes and tests which teachers return marked.
3. Achievement of an 80 average or higher on unit tests.
As a minimum, Ingenuity students are expected to score 'proficient' or 'advanced' on the Maryland State Assessment in order to participate in the Ingenuity eighth grade program.
If at any time during the year an Ingenuity student is not showing consistent effort to meet the standards, the student and his/her parents will be asked to meet with the school and Ingenuity staff to assess the students difficulties and determine the necessary steps for improvement in academic performance. Students who are continually unable to meet the demands of the Project will not reenter the program for the subsequent year. When students attend the Ingenuity Project at a school that is not their zoned school, if they withdraw or are asked to leave because they have not met the Ingenuity Standards, they will have to return to their zoned middle school.
