October 24, 2006 Dear Ingenuity at Federal Hill Parent: The Ingenuity Project started at Federal Hill Preparatory School (FHPS) with a first grade class and second grade class in September 2001 to provide an accelerated mathematics and science program for elementary students. Each year a grade was added through fifth grade. This elementary program has proven to be successful, preparing students well for middle school. Singapore Math provides a strong foundation for advanced mathematics, and the daily science classes deepen students' knowledge of Science. Because the elementary program is so well-established, the Ingenuity Project Board of Directors has asked the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) to assume control of the elementary program, effective September 1007. In this way, Ingenuity can focus its attention and resources on the middle and high school programs - the grades with the greatest needs. FHPS and the BCPSS enthusiastically accepted the opportunity to assume the administration of this established citywide elementary mathematics and science program, Ms. VanDyke and her staff have always been responsible for implementing the Ingenuity academic program. The transition will give FHPS control of the admissions process. While the name will change, the program will continue to run as it has in years past. Essentially, Ingenuity's systems and procedures will be transferred to FHPS, The shift in administrative responsibility is a win-win situation for current Ingenuity students and for the school. FHPS is extremely pleased, and is embracing this change with open arms. The Ingenuity staff will work closely with the school during the first year and will be available to offer guidance and support. This program will continue to be an excellent opportunity for your child, and the planned transfer of administrative responsibility will ensure that it runs as smoothly as ever. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Sherry VanDyke @ 410-396-1207 or Ms. Dolores Costello @ 410-662-8665.
