On March 4, 2024, five (5) students in Ms. No’s Ingenuity AP Calculus class worked on math equations for 14 hours to solve homelessness. The students participating in the challenge are Bryan Hijam, Vahe Zaprosyan, Lev Eisner, Salloni Gill, and Aidan Pierce. Ingenuity’s Team are joined by others competing in the MathWorks M3 Modeling Challenge.
According to the Philadelphia-based Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), which sponsors the M3 Challenge. “The M3 Challenge is an annual internet-based, intensive math modeling contest designed to motivate students to study and pursue careers in applied mathematics, computational science, data science, and technical computing.”
Ingenuity’s high school scholars worked hard for hours with breaks as needed to eat pizza and play ping pong. They submitted their proposed solutions to the M3 Competition and are looking forward to the next steps in the process. Their Teacher Ms. No said: I’m proud of the hard work and committed focus the students applied to the effort to the solution to a very real problem in Baltimore and cities across the world.”
