Ingenuity senior Aishwarya Shettigar won 2nd place at the Maryland Junior Science and Humanities Symposium(JSHS) with her project Studying Toxigenic C. Difficile as a Potential Inducer of Colon Cancer. Her Oral Presentation Awards include $1500 scholarship and free trip to San Diego for the National JSHS Competition in April. Junior Claire Wayner’s 3rd place prizes included $1000 scholarship and free trip to the National JSHS Competition in April. Rebecca Brody won 4th place and also will go to San Diego. Senior Stephen Grabowski won 1st place in the Poster Presentation competition.
On Saturday, March 25, Ingenuity students presented projects at the Baltimore Science Fair held at Towson University. Congratulations to senior Stephen Grabowski for being named this year’s Grand Prize winner in the biological sciences category. Stephen won for his project Dethiosulfovibrio Strain F2b, a New Non-Thiosufate Reducing Bacterium that Degrades Mariculture Waste. He will go to Los Angeles, CA to compete at the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Rebecca Brody won 1st place in the same category. Alida Schott won 1st place In the physical science category and also will go to Los Angeles. Iven Chen-Van Dyk, Elijah Dukes, Caterina Erdas, Mikell Meyers, Ezra Szanton, Claire Wayner, and Amy Zhang received different prizes, special awards and honorable mentions.
Felicity Ross, a 6th grade Ingenuity Project math teacher at Roland Park Elementary and Middle School, was one of 10 teachers from around the country honored last month by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) for excellence in teaching children with advanced academic abilities. Ms. Ross was honored during the Sarah D. Barder Fellowship Conference, held Feb. 24-25 at the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco. CTY hosts the conference every year to bring new and past fellows from around the country together to share ideas and best practices about educating bright students.
Ingenuity Project middle school students competed at the Morgan State Science Fair. The following students won major awards at the competition:
- Junior Engineering Science: 1 Place – Oliva Sandoval, Roland Park; 3 Place – Elias Q. Brody, Roland Park.
- Junior Earth and Environmental Science: 1 Place – Xander Zable, Roland Park; 3 Place – Angelica Brooks, Mt. Royal.
- Junior Biological Science: 2 Place – Zarin Mahmud, Roland Park; 3 Place – Tejal Schwartz, Roland Park.
- Junior Physical Science: 2 Place: Kenneth Outlaw, Mt. Royal; 3 Place: Jonah Schwartz, Roland Park.
- Junior Mathematics/Computer Science: 2 Place: Grace Johnson, Roland Park.
Congratulations to our senior Aishwarya Shettigar on her selection as the College Bound Scholar of the Week. The FOX45 aired a segment on Aishwarya several times during the week of March 21st.
Four Ingenuity students solved all problems in the Maryland Math League Contest #6: Andrew Frock, Yoav Kargon, Gerson Kroitz and Duncan Parke.
