William “Dave” Shaughnessy is a science teacher at Mount Royal Elementary Middle School. He started teaching Ingenuity students in 2018. Dave studied Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has experience working with the U.S. Forest Service in the Tongass National Forest and National Park Service in the Delaware Water Gap. His passion for science and conserving our environment led him to the Institute of Marine and Environmental Science Aquaculture Research Center. From there he decided to teach science, focusing on middle school Earth Science and Biology. He is currently working towards a Masters Degree in STEM Education Leadership from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Dave believes in the importance of science literacy for all students, and the real-world hands-on lab experiences that increase students’ understanding of the world around them.
