Kathy is the 8th grade Algebra Ingenuity teacher at James McHenry which graduated its first Ingenuity cohort her first year there. She has also co-taught the Ingenuity Summer Algebra Academy since 2020. Before moving to Baltimore, she taught Algebra 1 and 2 in the Dallas area for five years where she served on the district Algebra 1 curriculum writing team. She also served two years as the Algebra 1 team leader at her school. Prior to her time in the classroom, she spent thirteen years as a private tutor at all levels from elementary math to Calculus and College Algebra. After moving to Baltimore, she volunteered as a math tutor for several organizations. She came out of “retirement” and joined Ingenuity because she missed interacting with students on a more regular basis. There is nothing she likes better than to help students persevere through challenging material and guide them as they make exciting discoveries about math.
She has a B.A. in Mathematical Science from Rice University. In her spare time, she enjoys walks with her husband and dog, following the Dallas Stars hockey team and dining out. She is also active in her church community.
