Dr. Selene Willis joins The Ingenuity Project as their new Deputy Director. She has been a formal science educator and administrator for 15 years in public and independent middle and high schools. Most recently, she completed the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship at NASA, focusing on equity, inclusion, and broadening participation in STEM education for Science Activation projects within NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
Dr. Willis completed her doctoral degree in Science Curriculum and Instruction From the University of South Florida in October 2022. Her research examines the use of justice-centered science pedagogy and curriculum development as a path to student critical consciousness. Additionally, she has her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a Master of Teaching in Education from Pace University.
Selene is passionate about engaging students with hands-on learning that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and discussion of justice-related science issues. She hopes to combine her knowledge of STEM education research and classroom experiences to support curriculum development for educators.
Selene likes to bake pastries, explore local hiking trails with her dog Kira and travel to new places.
